President Obama---The Right Man at the Right Time
It would be difficult not to see the hand of destiny at work in the choice of Barack Obama as the president of the United States by the American people
and the world at large, during this time of such historic crisis. It seems nothing short of a miracle that he slogged through the pitfalls of such a
rancorous, brutal race with so few scars. He deflected just about everything the old political machine threw his way with elegance and grace, inspired a
movement of millions with the call of hope for a brighter day, and managed to run a flawless campaign. He struck a chord with the American people that
caused us to take a leap of faith with him on character alone. And if there was ever a time that we desperately needed character in our leaders, that
would be now.
In an interview with a reporter of the Chicago Sun Times in 2004 before he was elected Senator, Obama said "The biggest challenge, I think, is
always maintaining your moral compass. Those are the conversations I'm having internally. I'm measuring my actions against that inner voice that for me
is audible, is active. It tells me where I think I'm on track and where I'm off track." He continually asks himself, "How does this connect with a larger
sense of purpose?"
Obama is spiritually hard-wired as an inspirational leader, uniquely qualified to lift us up to a higher vibration of being, with his feet firmly planted
on the ground.
"My politics are informed by a belief that we're all connected. I am my brother's keeper. I am my sister's keeper, we are all children of God." -Barack Obama
His belief in the best of us, offering the opportunity to be greater than we have been, calling for us to pull together and help each other up is why
people are supporting him with such fervor. We want to support him because in doing so we support ourselves as a people. As a late level mature soul, he
is also masterful at bridging the divides between people across the boundaries of race, gender, political affiliation, soul age, national borders and
age. He refuses to use divisive language but rather emphasizes what unites us. One of the mantras of his campaign was "Respect, empower, include." He
has the capacity to listen to the truth on all sides, and find a higher truth that includes us all.
What is most remarkable about Obama as a leader is that he is modeling for us a more mature way of being. He treats people as adults, assumes their
intelligence and speaks to it. He draws out the best in people by speaking to the highest in us, and refuses to play to fear and anger. He doesn't
create separation with those he disagrees with, because he listens to their point of view, and is clear about the distinction between the person and
their ideas. In a nutshell, he is the perfect person to shepherd us into mature souled consciousness because we are finally mature enough to work
together with someone of his integrity and vision. We are no longer willing to be treated as children by our leaders which means we have to pull in our
"Daddy" projection from our president.
The challenges we face are staggering. The only way to navigate them successfully in the years ahead is through working together, taking responsibility
for our part of the solutions and not expecting our president, our government, or anyone in particular to bail us out of crisis. By Obama's own admission
he is not a perfect man and he will make mistakes in office. We can help him along the way by supporting his initiatives when they are moving in the
right direction and letting him know when we feel they are not. We can pray for his good health and the good health of his family. We can continue to see
him as a man, not an idol...a good man, one of us, who believes in us as much as we believe in him.
