Our Evolutionary Leap to Mature Souled Consciousness

In the wee hours of November 5th, as dawn rose across the world, millions looked at the news, looked at one another and felt an indescribable excitement that something was really different out there in the ethers. Things seemed lighter, brighter, more friendly. The air crackled with anticipation as if a cloak
of darkness had suddenly been lifted. The election of Barack Obama to the presidency of the US the night before sent an emotional tsunami of jubilation and relief across the globe, as if a black and white landscape had suddenly burst into vivid color. The promise of a new day was at hand and we could somehow feel that we all played a part in steering our ship to a safer harbor. What touched us so deeply was something of greater magnitude: this benchmark election was the collective tipping point where we shifted from young to mature souled consciousness.

It is such a huge energetic reconfiguration that many of us will reference the moment of this shift, just as we remember where we were when JFK was
shot. It was 9:03 EST November 4th, 2008 when the moment came. As an intuitive I couldn't help but notice a peculiar glitch in the matrix of the time/space continuum where time seemed to speed up and plunk us into this new reality. I was sitting with a group of friends watching CNN one minute, anxiously waiting for the electoral votes of the western states to come in, as
the polls had just closed, and the next minute: Obama Wins!. We all looked at each other quizzically and asked "What just happened?" In hindsight it seems
as though the collective pressure to make this leap at this moment in time shoved us over the line.

From the spiritual perspective, our deliverance is no accident. It has been an unfolding process spanning the past several centuries as humanity evolved through the past 2000 years of the young souled value system. Those of us
who have been tracking this extraordinary growth leap for many years
expected to see the election of Al Gore in 2000 as the symbolic anchoring of
the mature souled shift. But we were mistaken. Some other mysterious drama was unfolding that none of us could understand, but we eventually learned to trust that there was some unseen intelligence behind this course of events,
even though we were cringing. As disheartening as his ascension to power
was, the reign of George Bush and all the atrocities that came with it actually helped us get to where we are today. Things really did have to get that bad to jostle us out of our comfort zones and demand something better. We needed
to take our power back as a citizenry, and we did. The improbability of electing a young, untested, charismatic African American to the most powerful position in the land speaks volumes about our thirst for ethical, mature leadership. Obama's readiness to lead and the world's readiness to receive him as a
leader met in one brilliant flash of synchronicity.

Now that we are here in this new energy, just what are some of the signatures of mature souled consciousness that we can expect to experience in the years ahead? The most noticeable ones include:
  • Shifting from a success orientation to a relationship orientation
as a value system. More attention and value will be given to our
relationship to ourselves, to others, plants and animals, to the environment, to Spirit.
  • Feeling our interconnectedness with the whole: what affects one
affects all. Recognizing all life forms as a family.
  • Intolerance for corruption and bad behavior.
  • Celebrating diversity.
  • Learning how to negotiate conflicts through peaceful means rather
    than war.
  • Power moving from externals to internals. Qualities such as integrity, generosity, compassion, common decency, strength of character, service, and selflessness will have more respect.
  • Conscious co-creation.
In many spiritual traditions, learning how to get along with each other is considered the main lesson of our times. We now have the opportunity to take this lesson to a whole different level in our lifetime. Remember that adjustment to this new value system does occur gradually and because the shift is so huge, there will be many overlaps between the new and the old way of doing things for years to come. But the majority of people on the planet have now agreed that the old model is no longer the standard. "Me" consciousness has now matured to "We" consciousness and we aren't going back.
