Overview for 2009

The energetic influences of this year are supporting us in stepping up to the plate in a new way. With the winds of inspiration at our backs and a renewed faith in ourselves, we are being asked to face daunting challenges with an open heart. It's not so much what we meet but how we meet it that determines our success. This year it will be easier to choose love over fear. The primary reason for this is the jump forward in evolution that was made by the collective consciousness with the choice of Barack Obama as president of the US. This extraordinary event symbolized the passage of humanity from the young souled value system into mature souled consciousness (see article). We aren't going back to the old ways as that era is over: the playground rules have changed and it's a new day. Our relationship to all things and the value we place on those relationships, is ascending while the "success at all costs" model is descending into eventual extinction. This progression does not occur overnight. However, 2009 is the first time that we get to experience the flavor of this new quality of being en masse.

We will be inspired this year to become the solution to our problems by connecting with our deepest compassion, having faith in our basic goodness and imagining the impossible as possible.

Although the year has a softer focus to it, there is still hard work to be done. There are structures to overhaul and systems to replace. In the same way that a bad cut needs to be cleaned up before it can heal, more dysfunctional systems will need to fail. No one can predict just how long our economic recovery will take, but healing will take place if we have the trust and faith to make it through this painful but necessary triage. As our vision of what we want to see as a better world crystallizes, most of us will be willing to roll up our sleeves and pitch in.

Themes
  • Clarity
  • Taking responsibility
  • Service, compassion and forgiveness
  • Restoration of faith, trust, and generosity
  • Adjustment to a new set of values
  • Redefining security, prosperity, power, consumption
  • Bridging divides through negotiation

Globally, we are now playing with a new set of values that places inclusion, decency and respect for what serves the common good over the corruption and greed of the few. Our collective voice is saying that we have had enough. In many cases, the corruption is systemic and will take time to clean up. Simply throwing money at a problem will no longer work as a solution because change will need to come from the inside out. Expect to see a more mature, diverse standard of leadership replacing corrupted cabals within corporations and governments worldwide. Any nation, terrorist group or government that refuses to play by these more mature set rules and continues to resort to violence, may still cause plenty of trouble but will be considered playground thugs: finding themselves even more marginalized in the global theater.

At the personal level, we will be feeling a call to service and asking ourselves "What can I do to help make things better?" Are there some small sacrifices to be made? This call will be coupled with a willingness to take more responsibility for what we have created and want to create in the future. We will want to up our game in the area of relationships, finance, health and personal growth. Things that have been tolerated in ourselves and in others will no longer do. To move forward we will need to forgive ourselves and others for whatever keeps us negatively tethered to the past: old hurts, disappointments, guilts, bitterness. This is key to our success in receiving the blessings available to us in such an inspirational year.
